He joined the Royal Navy in July 1943 as an Apprentice Artificer - engineering rating. He was soon transferred to become an Officer Cadet – again as an engineer. He trained at Dartmouth College, and his first posting was to join H.M.S. Triumph in the Far East at the start of the Korean War, just after his marriage to Sheila in 1949.

Trevor’s Naval Career specialised in engineering research and development of the first generation of Gas Turbine War Ships. For his work in this field he is an honorary fellow of the Institute of Marine Engineers. He was engineering officer on HMS Ashanti (the first gas turbine ship in the royal navy) and HMS Fife.

Shore postings during his career included Malta, Manchester, Greenwich College (lecturer), Glasgow, Malaysia, Portsmouth Dockyard and Bath MOD which meant regular house moves for the family (Wife Sheila and daughters Jill and Cherry). He was awarded an OBE for his services in Malaysia.

Trevor retired from the navy in 1975 at the rank of Commander at the age of 48. He then worked for Vickers Ship Builders in Barrow, Argentina and Wales, as well as travelling to Japan and Korea, until finally retiring in 1984 age 57 to Trevor and Sheila’s house in Farmborough near Bath, Somerset.
